Jacob Herring has always loved puzzles. What he didn’t expect was that his curiosity and problem-solving would become the foundation for a purpose-driven business rooted in clarity, stewardship, and service.
A little over a year ago, Jacob was working for another company when he began digging through financial records to uncover why the business was struggling. What he discovered ultimately revealed that the company’s financial situation could no longer support keeping him on staff. While that season could have easily felt discouraging, it became the beginning of something new. The Lord had different plans.
Out of that transition, Ratio Verum was born.
Ratio Verum, which is Latin for “a true measurement,” exists to help purpose-driven small businesses make confident and wise decisions through clear financial reports and insights.
What began as a small bookkeeping firm quickly experienced remarkable growth. In their very first year of business, Jacob scaled Ratio Verum to a couple dozen clients exclusively through mission partnerships and relational referrals. That growth also allowed him to hire three team members, including his wife Deborah and their daughter Kaitlyn, as the business continued expanding.
Today, Ratio Verum continues building with a focus on clarity, integrity, and helping business owners steward their companies wisely. Their rapid growth is a testament not only to the need for trustworthy financial guidance, but also to the power of relational, mission-aligned business building.
As members of the Purpose Beyond Profit Mastermind, Jacob and Deborah have continued refining both the structure and vision behind Ratio Verum. Through coaching, collaboration, and strategic guidance, they have been intentional about ensuring their business practices align with their long-term mission and goals.
“Purpose Beyond Profit coaching ensures that our business structures and practices align well with our vision and goals. Jeremy’s insights continue to guide and confirm our direction. Exciting times!”
Their story is a powerful reminder that God often works through unexpected transitions. What may initially feel like loss can become the very thing that redirects us toward deeper purpose and greater impact. Jacob and Deborah are building more than a bookkeeping business. They are creating a mission-aligned company that helps other entrepreneurs lead with clarity, wisdom, and stewardship.
We’re honored to spotlight Jacob and Deborah Herring and celebrate the meaningful work they are doing through Ratio Verum as they continue building a business that reflects both excellence and purpose.
